ISTDP-informed consultation

ISTDP-informed consultation is a focused, collaborative space for education, skills-training, strategizing, and the application of strategies to life situations.

The work centers on looking closely at what is not working, identifying obstacles to progress, and developing more effective ways of responding.

ISTDP, or Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, is a form of psychotherapy. ISTDP-informed consultation draws on the broader understanding of human functioning found in ISTDP, but the services offered through Johannes Kieding AB are not ISTDP psychotherapy proper.

Instead, selected ISTDP-informed ideas are adapted into an educational, consultative, and skills-based framework. Rather than centering on diagnosis, treatment planning, or psychological treatment, the consultation is organized around learning, strategizing, and practicing the application of newly acquired skills. This makes the work categorically different from psychotherapy, psychological treatment, medical care, or crisis services.

These services do not involve diagnosis, treatment planning, medical advice, crisis care, or the creation of a therapist– patient relationship.
